Price List of
1933 and Values today
This is the price list Wix provided to their outlets for their entire range at the time. It is not known if the silks were given with both the Standard size and the Extra Large size - they probably were, to encourage the sales of both sizes. What was the average wage in 1933? The cost of the cigarettes equates to 5p for 20 and included in this price was a medium size silk. Cigarettes today are in excess of £3.30 for 20 with no silk. The cost of including a silk today, probably more than the price of the cigarettes. The current values of the silks are:- 1st. Series small - £2.80 each - Set £168 2nd. Series small - £4.80 each - Set £344 (40 x £4.80 = £192) The difference in the above figures is the premium for the last 10 Cover types make no difference to the price. Some minor colour varieties can be purchased for the same price as normal colours. The last 10 in the Second Series are usually sold between £20 - £50 each. Other silks that command a premium are the design varieties and the rare colour varieties. It is difficult to put a price on these and it all comes down to what the buyer is prepared to pay to complete their collection. Expect to pay over £100 for rare silks and at least full catalogue for Postcard size (if you can find them).
